Heroes of the Storm to Add Playable Xal’atath Content

The developers have not forgotten about the project and are preparing the next update.

At BlizzCon 2026 in September, the developers confirmed their return to Heroes of the Storm. The Blizzard Entertainment team has prepared a content update for the MOBA game, adding a new character from the World of Warcraft universe.

A gameplay trailer for Xal’atath was presented. On the promotional page, the developers outlined a brief description of the character:

• Assassin from whom no one can hide: “Conquer the battlefield with the Dark Heart and hold back opponents with the growing power of the Void.”
• Harbinger of the Void: “From Azeroth to the Nexus, Xal’atath has brought ancient intrigues and the enslaving power of the Void.”

An overview of Xal’atath’s abilities was also published:

• Trait — “Void Volley.” Basic attacks accumulate soul substance. At full substance charge, you launch a flurry of Void arrows into a selected area while continuing to move freely. Linked to the “Whispers of the Void” quest: completing it increases the range and charge speed, while attacks gain piercing ability and increased Void damage.
• Q — “Dark Heart Ritual.” You summon a Dark Heart talisman that pulses Void energy into nearby enemies, then follows any hero marked with “Dark Mark” and explodes.
• W — “Void Step.” You perform dashes between three points forming a triangle, and at each stop, the damage of your attacks increases. Can be canceled early to relocate or escape.
• E — “Dark Mark.” You launch a large Void sphere that marks heroes touched by its outer edge. The Dark Heart moves to the impact point and explodes, striking the marked heroes.
• Heroic Ability — “Void Eruption.” Channelling the ability, you create a growing Void sphere and launch it to blind enemies and gain a combat advantage, then detonate it to strike a large area. Using the ability on the Dark Heart instantly triggers an enhanced explosion.
• Heroic Ability — “Void Convergence.” You summon a portal from which ruthless Void creatures emerge to attack nearby enemies. New creatures will constantly replace fallen ones until the portal closes or is destroyed.

Attendees at BlizzCon 2026 will be able to play as the new heroine this weekend, while regular Heroes of the Storm players will have to wait. The update featuring the heroine is expected to release on September 28.
