Hearts of Iron IV Dev Corner | National Focus Flavor
Greetings, everyone!
Today marks the launch of a fresh series of Dev Corners, shifting our focus toward an ambitious project we have yet to explore. We are beginning with some preliminary questions regarding our core concepts. Subsequent updates will dive deeper into specific nations and content drafts, where we will eagerly seek your feedback.
To kick things off, let us discuss some broad design philosophy. We want to know which focus tree styles resonate with you most and what kind of content you would love to see expanded:
-
Should national focus trees feature more interconnected mechanics between different countries, and if so, how should those interactions manifest? While shared branches are an obvious solution, are there currently isolated, nation-specific focuses that you feel should create stronger synergies?
-
When navigating political branches with optional paths, what is your preferred reward structure: regime-tailored national spirits, unique leaders equipped with distinctive traits, or immersive narrative events?
-
Are there underutilized game mechanics that focus trees rarely leverage—such as production license bonuses—that you would like to see integrated more often?
Additionally, we would like to showcase a work-in-progress mechanic tailored for a specific nation. This system allows you to secure powerful advantages by engaging in economic cooperation with foreign powers, treating them much like domestic corporate entities.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below!
