Harry Styles on His Passion for Italy and Finding a Slower Pace Post-Hiatus

Harry Styles is peeling back the layers on his recent personal evolution, discussing the deliberate lifestyle shifts he has embraced during a rare period of professional stillness.

In a candid feature with The Sunday Times Magazine published this weekend, the 32-year-old luminary delved into his newfound affinity for the Italian way of life, the profound impact of becoming an uncle, his foray into marathon running, and the necessity of recalibrating his pace after years of global superstardom.

A New Musical Chapter: “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally”

Nearly four years after the monumental success of his Grammy-winning odyssey Harry’s House, Styles is preparing to re-enter the musical stratosphere. His highly anticipated fourth studio album, titled Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, is scheduled for arrival on March 6. The rollout will be supported by an ambitious global residency tour. The momentum is already building; the album’s lead single, “Aperture,” ascended directly to the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release in early February.

Since the 2023 conclusion of his record-breaking Love on Tour, Styles has largely eschewed the public eye. Instead, he has focused on personal milestones—traversing the globe for elite marathons and enjoying the quietude of Rome, where he was spotted last spring attending a papal ceremony.

Reflecting on the transition from the stage to a more stationary existence, Styles noted that finishing his two-year touring cycle was a signal that “it was time for me to stop for a bit and pay some attention to other parts of my life.”

He spent much of the 2024 summer immersed in Italian culture, describing the period as a vital “transitional moment.” Settling into a single location allowed him to detach from the industry’s demands and find comfort in a fresh environment.

The Art of the Slow Down

The “As It Was” singer credits his time in Rome with teaching him the intrinsic value of slowing down. “Italy became so important to me because I was so used to everything moving so quickly,” he explained. He recalled the simple revelation of sitting in a café, realizing he had rarely—if ever—just sat and enjoyed a coffee without the pressure of the next engagement.

“I realized the pleasure in just being in the moment of what you’re doing,” Styles remarked. “The Romans are the best at that—it’s their speciality. The pace they’ve taught me has been so special.”

This grounding extended to his family life. Following the birth of his sister Gemma’s daughter, Styles found clarity in his priorities. Being present for his niece’s formative years offered him a sense of reality that fame often obscures. “It was really obvious that was where I wanted to be,” he said.

Digital Detox and Physical Discipline

In a move toward mental clarity, Styles has also distanced himself from the digital world, revealing that he no longer keeps Instagram on his phone. This boundary has allowed him to foster a “healthier relationship” with the world as he prepares to return to the spotlight.

Physical discipline has also become a cornerstone of his routine. As he approached his third decade, his interest in long-distance running shifted from a casual hobby to a serious pursuit. He viewed the challenge of a marathon as a way to build structure during his periods of solitude.

“It showed me that I could do difficult things by myself,” he shared. “Running wasn’t about being perfect, or the best, and it has been really rewarding.”

The results speak for themselves. In March 2025, Styles completed the Tokyo Marathon with an impressive time of 3 hours and 24 minutes. He followed this by breaking the three-hour barrier at the 2025 Berlin Marathon, clocking in at 2:59 while running incognito under the pseudonym “Sted Sarandos.”

As Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally nears its release, Styles is poised to continue his streak of dominance. His previous three solo efforts all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, cementing his status as one of the defining artists of his generation.
