GWAR Transforms Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ Into a High-Octane Metal Cover

Interplanetary Metal Masters GWAR Deliver a Thrashing Rendition of Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club”

In the vibrant sanctuary Chappell Roan built with her hit “Pink Pony Club,” every soul is invited to be a queen—even if that soul resides within a spiked, heavy-metal-loving alien. This sentiment was put to the ultimate test when the shock-rock legends of GWAR delivered an unrelenting, high-octane reimagining of the pop sensation’s breakout anthem.

Appearing in the latest installment of The A.V. Club’s Undercover series, the interplanetary collective swapped Roan’s shimmering disco-pop for crushing riffs and pummeling percussion. Dressed in their signature grotesque armor, the band managed to blend their chaotic aesthetic with the song’s infectious energy. In a playful nod to the track’s theme, guitarist Balsac the Jaws of Death even modified his costume by strapping a pink hobby horse to his waist.

Frontman Blöthar the Berserker (Mike Bishop) took center stage, trading the original’s melodic trills for a gravelly, throat-shredding vocal performance. “Oh mama, I’m just having fun / On the stage in my heels / It’s where I belong,” he bellows, giving the lyrics a defiant, theatrical weight that feels surprisingly at home within GWAR’s over-the-top universe.

This unexpected tribute arrives as the band gears up for their 2026 “Gor-Gor Strikes Back Tour.” Scheduled to launch in March, the tour will see the group traveling across the United States to “annihilate” various cities through the end of April. The band is also fresh off the release of their seven-track project, The Return of Gor Gor, which debuted last summer.

As for Chappell Roan, the pop juggernaut has maintained a lower profile in early 2026 following a whirlwind year of superstardom. Her 2025 campaign saw her dominating the Billboard Hot 100 with massive hits, including “The Giver,” which reached No. 5 in March, and “The Subway,” which made a powerful debut at No. 3 in August.
