The day (or so) before the premiere of the second trailer on YouTube, GTA 6 was added to the list of games that could be linked to videos. Did the video hosting staff know something? Or just a coincidence?
Anyway, the trailer was given a unique link (yt.be/trailer2) similar to the first one. But did it help surpass the records of the debut show? It seems not. Let’s compare some figures.
- Within 24 hours:
- trailer 2 — 69 million views and 4.7 million likes;
- trailer 1 — 90.4 million views and 8.9 million likes.
- Within a week:
- trailer 2 — 106 million views and 5.8 million likes;
- trailer 1 — 143 million views and 10 million likes.
It’s unknown what caused this. Lack of announcement? A large amount of material released with the trailer? Or dwindling interest from those who were excited in December 2023? Either way, the Guinness World Records were hoping for new heights.
The most viewed videogame reveal on YouTube in 24 hours is Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 with 90,421,491 views, as of 5 December 2023.

Nevertheless, it didn’t stop, and may have even prompted, Rockstar Games to inform The Hollywood Reporter that the second trailer gained 475 million views across all platforms on the first day. How did they get such a number? It likely sums up posts on all social networks: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok (where it was the first ever developer post), etc. It also probably includes figures on regional channels. “Why duplicate the video in all languages when subtitles are in the main one, and the first didn’t even do that?” you might ask. There are reasons for that: marketing and classification nuances in different countries. That’s how almost half a billion was accumulated, not counting various re-uploads from PlayStation, Xbox, fans, and fan resources.
As usual, trailer 2 sparked interest in the music soundtrack. Spotify shared this statistic: The listens of The Pointer Sisters’ Hot Together, one of the main five, grew by 182,000 percent! Even Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty, a song from trailer 1, enjoyed a 37,000 percent increase after May 6. And this is just on one platform, without accounting for Apple Music and others.
