GTA 6: Publishers Fear It Like the Plague, but Zelnick Offers Reassurance Yesterday at 22:30 OPla G710

A week ago, we already reported that representatives of the gaming industry are stressed about the uncertainty of whether GTA 6 will really be released this fall. They are eager to avoid launching their video games simultaneously with the juggernaut that could capture all the public’s attention and money. This concern is shared not only by small and independent studios but also by giants like EA with its upcoming Battlefield, even if they don’t directly state the reasons for their hesitation. Everyone understands the situation well.

The Game Business publication features anonymous comments from three heads of publishing companies, who describe, in various words, the risks of releasing titles around the time Grand Theft Auto VI debuts. In addition, developers of some of the most popular games-as-a-service are also not planning to provide thematic updates during this risky period to ensure they don’t go unnoticed.

The same article cites data from Ampere on what else the GTA 5 / GTA Online audience is playing. The figures are approximate and cover various periods over the last six months; however:

  • Roblox — 22%;
  • Fortnite — 21%;
  • EA Sports FC 25 — 12.9%;
  • Call of Duty — 12.3%;
  • Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Zero — 6.7%;
  • Star Wars Outlaws — 5.3%;
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 — 3.3%;
  • Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth — 3.2%;
  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — 3.1%;
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio — 1.3%.

This is another reason why the developers of the “six” are interested in creating content similar to what exists in Roblox and Fortnite.

There are other interesting numbers as well. On average, players return to Fortnite 7-8 days a month, to CoD — 6-7, while for “five” and “Online,” this number is slightly lower — only 4-5 out of 30.

But back to GTA 6. In a new interview with Bloomberg, Strauss Zelnick was asked a lot about business, and of course, the most important question came up: when? The CEO, as usual, didn’t give a direct answer but shared their advertising strategy. They plan to launch the marketing campaign shortly before the release. This offers a sense of cautious optimism: Grand Theft Auto VI might indeed come out this fall.
