Grand Theft Auto V, along with its multiplayer counterpart GTA Online, has been officially added to the “Leaving Soon” section of the Xbox Game Pass library.
The blockbuster title is scheduled to depart the service on April 15. Players have just over a week to experience the game across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and via Cloud Gaming. The PC version remains compatible with the popular FiveM modding platform for those seeking a custom roleplay experience. Subscribers who wish to keep the game permanently can currently purchase it at a 20% discount before it leaves the rotation.
This most recent residency lasted for exactly one year. This marks a shift in strategy, as the game previously alternated with Red Dead Redemption II on a semi-annual basis.
Leaked internal documents from 2023 provide fascinating insight into the economics of these deals. Microsoft reportedly pays between $12 million and $15 million per month to retain Grand Theft Auto V on the service, which translates to approximately 30 million hours of gameplay. By comparison, hosting RDR 2 costs the tech giant roughly $5 million monthly and generates about 10 million hours of engagement.
