Green Day Slated to Ignite Super Bowl LX Opening Ceremony in Santa Clara

Punk rock legends Green Day are returning to their roots to kick off the festivities for Super Bowl 60. The East Bay trio—comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool—will headline the opening ceremony on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The NFL announced on Sunday that the band will deliver a high-octane set featuring their “most iconic rock anthems.” While the specific setlist remains a surprise, the group has an immense catalog of hits to draw from, spanning over three decades of music history—from their 1994 Diamond-certified breakthrough Dookie to their modern-day chart-toppers.

A Celebration of Football History

This year’s opening ceremony serves as a milestone celebration of 60 years of Super Bowl history, specifically honoring the legendary MVPs who have shaped the game. The event is scheduled to air live at 3 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. ET on Super Bowl Sunday across NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, and Universo.

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” Billie Joe Armstrong shared in an official statement. “It is a massive honor to welcome the MVPs who’ve defined this sport and to kick off the night for fans across the globe. Let’s get loud and have some fun!”

Tim Tubito, the NFL’s senior director of event and game presentation, emphasized the significance of the choice. “Commemorating six decades of Super Bowl history with a hometown powerhouse like Green Day is a formidable way to launch Super Bowl LX. In collaboration with NBC Sports, we are aiming to create a collective celebration that resonates with fans both in the stands and watching worldwide.”

A Star-Studded Pregame Lineup

The addition of Green Day rounds out an impressive roster of pre-kickoff entertainment. The NFL previously confirmed that Charlie Puth will perform the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will deliver a rendition of “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Following the pregame festivities, global icon Bad Bunny is set to take the stage as the headliner for the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. The Puerto Rican superstar has been on a meteoric rise, with his latest tour already shattering box-office records, grossing over $100 million in its opening weeks. As fans prepare for the big game, the combination of Green Day’s punk energy and Bad Bunny’s global pop dominance promises one of the most diverse musical lineups in the history of the championship.
