The next chapter in The Fast & the Furious franchise, Fast Forever, is scheduled for release in 2028. Billed as the series finale, the property is still expanding. Peacock has greenlit a television series based on the franchise with the involvement of star Vin Diesel.

As reported by Variety, Peacock aims to premiere the show in 2028 alongside the release of the next film. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will write the pilot, serve as showrunners, and act as executive producers. Diesel will also executive produce the project. He mentioned in May that a series was in development, but the Peacock announcement makes it official. It remains unconfirmed whether Diesel will reprise his role as street racer and auto mechanic Dominic Toretto. That decision may depend on the character’s fate in Fast Forever, which is slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

What we know about Fast Forever

More than three years have passed since Fast X concluded on a cliffhanger. Although Fast Forever faced multiple delays, Vin Diesel states that production will finally begin this December. Fast X director Louis Leterrier returns to direct Fast Forever. Diesel told fans that the screenplay by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) ranks as the best script he has read in decades and moved him to tears.

Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris will likely return alongside Diesel. Post-credits scenes in Fast X teased the comebacks of Gisele Yashar, played by Gal Gadot, and Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson. Diesel previously stated that reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner, originally played by the late Paul Walker, was a condition for the finale. Caleb Walker, who worked as a body double to help complete Furious 7 following his brother’s passing, noted that Brian could return if handled with careful thought and taste.
