Following its April 2025 debut, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swiftly captivated the gaming landscape. Sandfall Interactive’s inaugural RPG project not only surpassed 8 million units sold but also garnered widespread critical acclaim. The anticipation surrounding the title had been building long before its official launch.
By January 2025, Story Kitchen confirmed they were developing a live-action adaptation of the game. While official updates remain scarce, the community has already dived deep into speculative casting. Rich Keeble, the distinctive voice behind the eccentric, foot-fixated gestral warrior Monoco, stands out as a prime candidate to reprise his role, though he notes no formal discussions have taken place.
“I don’t have any insights into the production’s status,” Keeble shared during a recent video interview. “I would jump at the chance to portray Monoco in any capacity, though I realize studios typically favor A-list stars for these roles.”
“Given that Monoco is almost certainly destined for CGI or motion-capture — and let’s hope we steer clear of AI—it would be a dream if they brought me in for the voice work from a studio in London,” Keeble remarked. He humorously suggested that, as a performer, he’s ready to record from his home booth immediately, eliminating the need for travel logistics.
Monoco has secured his place as a fan favorite, providing essential levity amidst the game’s weightier themes. Much of this charm stems from the game’s sharp dialogue paired with Keeble’s seasoned background in stand-up and sketch comedy.
“In British comedy, there’s often a mandate for subtlety—avoiding the urge to overplay the humor,” he explained. He applied this disciplined approach to Monoco, ensuring the character’s inherent absurdity feels grounded. “The characters genuinely believe in their own reality; they aren’t trying to be funny, and that sincerity is where the true comedy blossoms.”
Maintaining his comedic wit, Keeble added, “I’m calling on all fans to join a boycott of the film unless I’m cast as Monoco—or I shall be utterly incensed.”
As for whether he’ll actually venture to the cinema to watch the adaptation, Keeble is keeping his options open. “Oh, absolutely,” he laughed, “it entirely depends on whether or not I’m on screen.”
