Everything You Need to Know for Frigibax Community Day in Pokémon GO

Mark your calendars! Pokémon Go is hosting a Frigibax Community Day on Saturday, June 20, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.

As is customary for these events, Frigibax will appear in abundance across the map, with a significantly boosted shiny rate. We’ve broken down everything you need to know about the bonuses and strategic tips for the event below.

How to track down a shiny Frigibax

Based on long-standing community data, the shiny rate during Community Day events is approximately 1 in 24. If you spend the three-hour event window actively hunting, your odds of finding a handful of these elusive creatures are quite favorable.

If you are short on time or supplies, consider using an Incense to draw spawns to you. You can quickly tap on each Frigibax to check for a shiny encounter, then exit the encounter immediately if it’s standard. Keep an eye on how the Frigibax models are facing; if a Pokémon has already been checked, it will often orient itself toward your player character, which can help you avoid wasting time on repeat encounters.

Exclusive Community Day move: Glaive Rush

If you evolve your Arctibax into a Baxcalibur between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time, it will automatically learn the powerful charged move, Glaive Rush.

If you aren’t able to secure the move during this window, you can either wait for a potential recap event in December or use an Elite TM to teach it later.

Is Baxcalibur a meta-relevant choice?

In PvE (Raids and Gyms), Baxcalibur functions as a top-tier Ice-type attacker when equipped with Ice Fang and Avalanche. While it is also a capable Dragon-type attacker with Ice Fang and Glaive Rush, it faces stiff competition from juggernauts like Black Kyurem, Origin Forme Palkia, and Dialga.

For PvP, look for Baxcalibur to potentially shake up the Master League meta, particularly when running Dragon’s Breath, Glaive Rush, and Avalanche.

Crucially, Baxcalibur has an unreleased Mega form. Given its role in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it is highly probable that a Mega Raid will arrive in the future. Because of this, it is wise to hold onto at least one or two high-IV specimens equipped with Glaive Rush, as they may become premier Dragon-type attackers once their Mega form is introduced.

Event Bonuses

Take advantage of these active perks throughout the event:

  • 3x Stardust for every catch.
  • 2x Candy for every catch.
  • Doubled probability for Trainers level 31+ to receive XL Candy.
  • Incense duration extended to three hours.
  • Lure Modules remain active for one hour.
  • Surprise Frigibax appearances when taking snapshots.
  • One additional Special Trade.
  • Reduced Stardust cost for trades.

We recommend pairing these bonuses with a Star Piece to maximize your Stardust gains. Furthermore, by Mega Evolving Pokémon like Charizard X, Dragonite, Rayquaza, or Abomasnow, you can earn bonus Candy for every Frigibax caught.

If you selected the “Catch (XP)” path in this week’s “Choose Your Path” research, enjoy a 1.5x XP multiplier on your nice throws or better. Finally, while the primary event ends at 5 p.m., Frigibax will continue to appear near active Lures until 9 p.m., providing you with extra time to secure your shiny catches.
