EA Guarantees Creative Freedom Despite Sale to a Consortium

Electronic Arts says it will preserve “creative control” and “creative freedom” if its sale to a consortium of investors goes through.

The company confirmed that in late September it signed an agreement for EA to be acquired by a group of investors that includes the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.

The investors will acquire 100% of EA’s shares, with the PIF rolling up its existing stake in the business. The transaction has been described as “the largest all-cash privatization in history,” and is expected to close within six to nine months.

In a frequently asked questions document for employees, EA stressed:

“Our mission, values and commitments to players remain unchanged. EA will retain creative control, and creative freedom and a player-focused approach will remain intact.”

“The consortium believes in our vision, leadership and focus on making games, stories and content that reflect diverse experiences, and in delivering these to a global audience of players,” the company said. “They are investing in the creativity that defines EA.”
