Dune: Awakening Faces Major Audience Problems — The Numbers Don’t Lie

Dune: Awakening’s online population is collapsing rapidly, with active player numbers continuing to fall. Funcom’s new release has been met with heavy criticism and troubling metrics that put its future in doubt.

Not long ago the project was considered a frontrunner for success, but it now falls behind even Conan Exiles, which launched years earlier.

The 24-hour peak for Dune: Awakening did not exceed 8,600 concurrent players. By comparison, Conan Exiles simultaneously had over 9,000 players. The older title has maintained that lead for several weeks.

Steam reviews are far from favorable. Players report monotony after obtaining the ornithopter, a restrictive base-building system, and a lot of aimless grinding.

The developers promise a series of updates to restore player interest, but with such low online numbers and declining engagement, reversing the trend will be extremely challenging.
