Pop superstar Dua Lipa has officially launched a $15 million legal battle against Samsung. Filed this past Friday, May 8, the complaint alleges that the tech giant has systematically exploited her identity and image to market television sets without obtaining the necessary permissions or providing compensation.

The lawsuit contends that Samsung utilized a protected photograph of the artist—for which she holds exclusive copyright—on television packaging sold throughout 2025 and 2026. The legal action outlines several serious claims, including copyright infringement, trademark violations, and the unauthorized appropriation of her right of publicity.

According to civil documents submitted to the United States District Court in the Central District of California, the singer’s legal team at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP first flagged the unauthorized usage in June 2025, immediately issuing a cease-and-desist order to the electronics firm. The filing argues that Samsung ignored these repeated warnings, describing the company’s response as “dismissive and callous” while asserting that the infringing products remain actively available for purchase across the country.

“Samsung’s intentional and calculated misconduct has caused, and continues to cause, significant and irreparable harm to Ms. Lipa, while simultaneously profiting from her identity,” the complaint states. Through this litigation, Lipa seeks to permanently halt Samsung’s actions and secure damages for what she characterizes as the theft of her personal and intellectual assets.

The court documentation includes evidence of the disputed image—reportedly captured backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits festival—as well as social media commentary from fans who encountered the branded packaging. One cited social media post captures the influence of the unauthorized imagery, with a consumer noting that they decided to purchase the television primarily because they saw the pop star’s image on the box.

The filing emphasizes Dua Lipa’s extensive history of curated commercial partnerships with major global entities, including Porsche, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Apple, and Nespresso, highlighting that the artist maintains rigorous standards regarding the commercial use of her likeness. This legal action underscores her commitment to protecting her brand alongside her continued musical success, which includes three Grammy wins and high-charting albums such as Future Nostalgia and Radical Optimism.
