Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC Confirmed to Not Include New Vocations
An eagerly awaited and substantial expansion is on the horizon for Dragon’s Dogma 2 enthusiasts. Titled Dark Arisen, this upcoming DLC brings a wealth of quality-of-life enhancements alongside a brand-new frozen zone known as Norgan. Standing as the most ambitious update Capcom’s fantasy role-playing game has ever received, the project was spearheaded by fan-favorite director Kento Kinoshita, who previously helmed the 2013 standalone release, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.
Given the sheer scope of the Dark Arisen add-on, many community members naturally wondered if fresh character classes would be introduced, sparking numerous discussions about ideal setups. However, with the launch just around the corner, Capcom has clarified that no new vocations will be featured. According to the development team, this was a purposeful design choice rather than an oversight.
‘We never really considered adding new vocations’ to Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
In a September 21 interview with Nintendo Everything, the creators behind Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen shed light on why they skipped introducing additional vocations. “We never really considered adding new vocations. Our approach was more that taking the existing vocations in the game and expanding the strategic possibilities would be more beneficial to all players,” Kinoshita explained. He noted that the expansion aims to inject fresh depth into the current roster instead. “We felt that giving everyone almost the feeling like every vocation feels new or feels fresh was a better way to expand the game rather than simply adding on extra vocations which not everyone may be interested in trying out.”
“We felt that giving everyone almost the feeling like every vocation feels new or feels fresh was a better way to expand the game rather than simply adding on extra vocations which not everyone may be interested in trying out.”
Consequently, when Dark Arisen becomes available on October 9, it presents the ultimate opportunity to experiment with an unfamiliar class or revisit a personal favorite. The base game’s repertoire currently spans starting vocations (Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage), advanced paths (Warrior, Sorcerer), and versatile hybrid options (Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster, Warfarer), all of which can be swapped out at any Vocation Guild.

Even without brand-new vocations in the pipeline, Dragon’s Dogma 2 receives plenty of compelling content to justify the investment. Chief among these is the snowy realm of Norgan. While accessible relatively early in the main journey—shortly after arriving in Vernworth—adventurers are strongly advised to reach around level 40 before stepping foot into the province, as it features blinding blizzards and fierce adversaries.
Additionally, Dark Arisen introduces 12 Lost Rites, which are challenging dungeons scattered across both Norgan and the broader world. These sites offer a significant spike in difficulty, rewarding brave souls with rare gear and powerful weapon upgrades. For veterans seeking an even harsher test of skill, a brand-new Hard Mode has also been bundled into the expansion.
The DLC further enriches the experience with an original narrative arc where players team up alongside Eir to track down an enigmatic entity known as the Fallen Dragon. According to the creators, this storyline should take roughly 15 to 20 hours to finish, though completion times will naturally vary depending on how deeply players dive into side activities and exploration.
“Hopefully players will look forward to getting to the end of the new storyline and fully comprehending the meaning of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen as a name,” Kinoshita remarked during his September conversation.
