Animal Crossing’s Biggest Competitor Officially Launches in December
Following months of quiet surrounding its anticipated relaxing life-simulation title, HoYoverse has finally locked in an official launch date for Petit Planet. The cozy game arrives on December 4 for PC and mobile platforms, with pre-loading kicking off on December 1. At present, the developer has not confirmed a release for home consoles.
This announcement arrives roughly a year after the game’s initial beta test, accompanied by a fresh preview trailer that showcases the meticulous preparation required to host a community picnic for the local villagers.
The footage serves as an effective showcase of how much broader Petit Planet has grown since its early testing phase. Notably, the trailer displays a remarkably diverse selection of character customization options spanning multiple distinct aesthetics. While the initial beta leaned heavily into delicate, ethereal feminine garments, this new look introduces everything from cozy knit sweaters and utilitarian cargo pants to casual tees, structured trench coats, robust combat boots, and classic Mary Janes—offering a genuinely versatile wardrobe.
Furthermore, the trailer highlights peaceful rural activities like fishing and farming set within a lovingly terraformed village. Players can creatively divert a river right through the settlement—boosting the bucolic atmosphere while creating a prime fishing spot—and manage large agricultural plots yielding towering stalks of giant corn. Exterior homestead customization clearly remains a core pillar, and HoYoverse has evidently scaled up the creative freedom since the beta.
Interior design receives the same thoughtful treatment. The protagonist’s dwelling now features a grounded, earthy aesthetic absent from last year’s build, complete with a brick oven accented by a sunflower motif, matching earth-toned kitchenware, and charming decorative details like bug-shaped throw pillows.

The showcase wraps up with a neighborhood festival where community members—both human residents and expressive animal companions—gather to share dishes and celebrate into the evening. Brief glimpses of a card game (though whether it’s fully playable or purely aesthetic remains unconfirmed), brilliant fireworks displays, and various multiplayer activities round out the preview. True to our initial impression last year, Petit Planet is shaping up to be HoYoverse’s definitive answer to Animal Crossing.
HoYoverse will host a dedicated Petit Planet livestream on November 1, offering a deeper look at what players can expect from the release.
