Total War: Warhammer 40,000 Official Reveal

The acclaimed Total War franchise, which first merged its grand strategy mechanics with the Warhammer universe in 2016, is finally venturing into the grim darkness of the far future. After a successful trilogy set in the fantasy “Old World,” the series is making a massive leap into the 41st millennium with the announcement of Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

The reveal took center stage at The Game Awards, introduced by Stranger Things star David Harbour. Beyond presenting the project, Harbour confirmed he will also be featured as a character within the game. You can experience the high-octane announcement trailer here, and view a selection of debut screenshots below.

“Experience the brutal fusion of galactic strategy and grimdark warfare,” the game’s official description reads. Players will take command of legendary factions, tailoring their war machines for devastating planetary conflicts as they carve a bloody path across the stars. While the cinematic trailer focused heavily on the iconic Space Marines, a concurrent press release confirmed that four distinct factions will be playable: the Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari.

One of the most significant additions to the formula is a deep focus on army personalization. For the first time in the series, players can forge a military force that is entirely their own. This customization suite allows for the adjustment of everything from faction titles and heraldry to iconography and arcane wargear. By defining unique tactical traits, commanders can unleash a signature style of destruction across the galaxy.

In a notable departure for the historically PC-centric series, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is slated to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S alongside its PC debut.
