Critical Role Announces Campaign 4 Formula Changes

Critical Role Campaign 4 returned for its latest arc on Aug. 27. Fans have dealt with terrifying dreams, intense combat that made Laura Bailey scream multiple times, and political intrigue. Three episodes in, viewers are enjoying the show.

However, one snag has fans scratching their heads regarding Campaign 4 scheduling.

What is Critical Role Campaign 4’s episode schedule for its current arc?

Unlike previous campaigns set in Exandria, Campaign 4 features 13 players. Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan manages this large group through the West Marches format. This sandbox style accommodates large groups and centers on a single hub where players rest and recuperate. The biggest draw of West Marches for Campaign 4 is that there is no regular party. Instead, the cast splits into three tables known as Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers.

The first arc of Campaign 4 followed these three tables through separate adventures lasting four to five episodes each before they reunited in Dol-Makjar for the Convergence arc. When the tables split again for the current arc, fans expected the same formula of a few episodes for the Seekers, then the Schemers, and finally the Soldiers. Instead, episode 32 started with the Seekers, episode 33 followed the Schemers, and episode 34 went back to the Seekers. With that rotation, viewers might have expected the next episode to return to the Schemers. According to Critical Role’s programming schedule, episode 35 follows the Seekers once more.

This shake-up of the Campaign 4 formula has left some fans wondering about the episode schedule. Some viewers believe the change highlights the impact of player choices rather than fitting player availability. For example, in episode 33, titled “Off-Balance,” viewers learned that members of the Revolutionary Council will travel to Dol-Makjar to address Yanessa Halovar’s call for a vote of no confidence. In episode 34, titled “Rock and Flame,” the Seekers block a road to delay House Tachonis from reaching Houndsport. Showing the Seekers episode first lets viewers see how the Schemers react when that decision impacts them in real time.

Switching between the Seekers and Schemers for narrative purposes has raised questions about how the second arc of Campaign 4 episodes will proceed. Fans want to know if they can expect more frequent swapping between tables or a return to following one table at a time. Polygon has reached out for further clarification.

A Critical Role representative previously clarified to Polygon that there is no set cadence for how many episodes each table will receive. Fans will need to monitor Critical Role’s programming schedule to find out which table appears on Thursday nights.
