Creators of Payday 3 lost over $27 million — canceled a Dungeons & Dragons co‑op game

Starbreeze has encountered new troubles.

Recently Starbreeze, best known for the Payday series, returned the spotlight to a project called Project Baxter — and not for a positive reason.

Project Baxter has been cancelled. It was planned as a cooperative adventure set in the “dynamic world of Dungeons & Dragons.”

The cancellation will trigger an impairment of roughly $27.2 million and lead to the dismissal of about 44 people (including both employees and contractors).

Starbreeze frames the cancellation as a “difficult but necessary decision.” The team will redirect its efforts toward Payday 3, expanding that development group to around 50 staff members.
