Cosplayer brings Dark Souls II’s Emerald Herald to life: “I was created by men, but born of dragons”

Cosplayer Reganight has flawlessly transformed into the Emerald Herald from Dark Souls II, stepping into the role of the guide who aids the Bearer of the Curse in surviving a brutal fantasy realm, facilitating level-ups and reinforcing the Estus Flask.

Photographer Ekaterina Morpheeva frequently ventures into the worlds of iconic video games, delivering striking and evocative imagery that resonates with both gamers and the cosplay community.

In her latest project, she explored the haunting landscapes of the action-RPG Dark Souls II, capturing model Reganight’s portrayal of Shanalotte, the enigmatic figure known as the Emerald Herald.

The Emerald Herald serves as the first point of contact for the player upon reaching Majula. She is an indispensable ally, enabling character progression and refining the Estus Flask to increase the number of times it can be used for healing.

Shanalotte is no ordinary human. Lore suggests she is a unique hybrid created by the experiments of Lord Aldia and King Vendrick in a desperate attempt to engineer a being capable of breaking the endless cycle of the curse.

The character herself describes her origins cryptically: “I was born of dragons, contrived by men. By ones who would cozen fate itself.” Clad in her iconic green hooded mantle, she provides the player with essential insights into the crumbling world around them.
