“It’s my bestie,” Laufey exclaimed as Alex Warren approached her and Sombr, the three Best New Artist contenders merging into a celebratory group embrace. This candid moment of camaraderie unfolded in a secluded green room just behind the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton, where Clive Davis hosted his legendary Pre-Grammy Gala on Saturday evening.

The exclusive guest list, curated personally by Davis, featured a blend of heritage icons and modern hitmakers, including Art Garfunkel, John Legend, and Jelly Roll. Throughout the night, the atmosphere was electric as ten distinct performances showcased the industry’s past, present, and future. The lineup featured a diverse array of talent, from the rap duo Clipse and pop-punk staple Machine Gun Kelly to the soulful Jennifer Hudson and country-pop titans Dan + Shay.

A Night of Tributes and Breakout Moments

The musical program opened with a high-energy collaboration between Jelly Roll and MGK, who joined forces for a rousing tribute to rock titan Ozzy Osbourne. Darren Criss and Laufey pivoted to classic pop, honoring Bernie Taupin’s legendary songwriting with a medley of Elton John’s most beloved hits. In a more solemn moment, Jennifer Hudson captivated the room with a masterful vocal performance dedicated to the late Roberta Flack.

The evening also spotlighted the year’s most promising newcomers. Best New Artist nominees Sombr, Alex Warren, and Olivia Dean each took to the stage to perform the anthems that defined their ascent: “12 to 12,” “Ordinary,” and “Man I Need,” respectively.

“This gathering is truly extraordinary,” Davis remarked to a crowd that included luminaries like Joni Mitchell, Dave Grohl, Lana Del Rey, and Karol G. “We are here to honor the very essence of musicality and the dedication of the artist.”

Honoring the Architects of Republic Records

A central highlight of the gala was the recognition of Republic Records co-founders Monte and Avery Lipman. The brothers were presented with the 2026 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons award, a testament to their decades of market dominance. Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge delivered a heartfelt introduction, noting the brothers’ relentless drive. “While many only witness the final triumph, success at this magnitude is never a matter of chance; it is the result of an incredible journey,” Grainge told the audience.
