Tensions flared at The Black Crowes’ concert in Tampa this past Sunday (May 31), when frontman Chris Robinson clashed with members of the audience over a spontaneous, patriotic outburst.
Video footage circulating from the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre shows the situation unfolding after the band’s stage production featured a mascot dressed as Uncle Sam. The display triggered a loud “U.S.A.!” chant from segments of the crowd, a gesture that clearly struck a nerve with the singer.
Robinson didn’t mince words when addressing the dissenters. “Some of us possess real conviction,” he declared from the stage. “To those of you booing us, understand that some of us aren’t living in fear. We certainly aren’t ignorant, so thank you.”
According to TMZ, Robinson’s frustration continued, as he mocked the chanting by adding, “I appreciate the geography lesson… though I’m not entirely sure what you feel so proud of at this exact moment.”
The confrontation reportedly led to a segment of the audience walking out of the venue in protest. While Robinson has historically avoided becoming the face of political discourse, his candid remarks in a traditionally conservative region left little doubt regarding his current frustrations with the American political climate.
The Black Crowes are slated to continue their current tour this Tuesday (June 2) in St. Augustine, Florida, before heading to Georgia and North Carolina. The band recently released their latest studio album, A Pound of Feathers, following their inclusion in the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination cycle.
