Dax Shepard and Cher have reached a humorous consensus: Kristen Bell is undeniably the prize in her marriage.

During an appearance on the Monday (Jan. 5) episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, Shepard playfully interrogated the legendary pop icon about her opinion on his relationship. Acknowledging Cher’s legendary status and high standards, Shepard asked who she thought would be a more fitting partner for his wife. Bell, who was present for the recording, looked on as Shepard teased, “I know you think she could do better. Who would be your pick?”

Cher, who starred alongside Bell in the 2010 film Burlesque, offered a characteristically dry response. “The truth is, I trust her,” she said of her former costar’s judgment. Turning her attention back to Shepard, she added, “So, you must have something that I don’t see. And you seem like a good dad.”

The lighthearted exchange followed a more vulnerable segment where Shepard discussed his history with substance abuse and expressed his deep gratitude for his marriage and his two daughters. Cher didn’t hesitate to chime in during that moment, quipping, “You’re lucky. She’s definitely the better half.”

While Shepard maintained that “nobody is good enough” for the Nobody Wants This star, Bell was quick to defend her husband’s character. “There’s a lot to this man,” she assured Cher, describing Shepard as a “slow burn” who eventually wins everyone over. She even went as far as to say, “He’s almost too good for me.”

The trio eventually found common ground regarding the dynamics of power and success in a relationship. Shepard noted that he is never intimidated by Bell’s professional triumphs, stating, “I’m not threatened by her shining. I love it. The shinier she gets, the better.” Cher noted a similar quality in her boyfriend, music executive Alexander “AE” Edwards. “Alexander’s that way, too,” she shared. “The more I shine, the more he has fun.”

Cher’s visit to the podcast comes as fans anticipate the second volume of her autobiography, which is slated for release later this year. The initial installment, Cher: The Memoir, debuted in November 2024 and provided an intimate look at her early life and her complex partnership with Sonny Bono.

Reflecting on that era, the Grammy winner mentioned that she remained on decent terms with Bono until his passing, though she can’t say the same for his widow, Mary Bono. Referencing their ongoing legal battle over Sonny & Cher royalties, Cher joked, “No, because she’s trying to take all my money. It’s been fascinating.”
