Charli XCX Unveils Haunting Single “House” from Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights Soundtrack

Charli XCX has contributed several original pieces to Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The first release from that collaboration, a chilling single titled “House,” arrived on November 10, 2025.
An ominous visual for “House,” directed by Mitch Ryan (who also directed Charli’s “Party 4 U” video), debuted alongside the single and features a guest turn from Velvet Underground legend John Cale.
The unsettling clip opens with Cale’s narration as Charli awakens in a shadowy home and pours hot candle wax across her skin. The sequence shifts to a raven gliding into a bedroom while Charli and Cale exchange a grim duet, repeating the refrain, “I think I’m gonna die in this house.”
Strings swell to a crescendo as Charli releases a visceral scream, and Cale closes the visual with a hushed line: “In every room, I hear silence.” The video culminates with Charli lying in a white dress on a bed of leaves in a stark, wintry wood.
The tone marks a deliberate departure from the playful chaos of the Brat era, revealing a darker, more theatrical side of Charli’s artistry as she deepens her involvement in film work.
In a statement detailing her role on the soundtrack and the genesis of “House,” Charli called the song “elegant and brutal.” She explained that Emerald Fennell contacted her last Christmas about contributing to the project, and after reading the script she and collaborator Finn Keane began writing multiple pieces that resonated with Fennell’s vision. Immersed in the material, she found herself drawn to images of passion, pain, the English moors, mud, cold and stubborn resolve.
Charli says she was inspired by a documentary about The Velvet Underground and by a line she kept returning to from John Cale: that a song should be both “elegant and brutal.” While on tour in Austin, she and Finn laid down the song’s initial framework, and later she reached out to Cale to share material and ask for his thoughts. He responded by recording a passage for “House” — a contribution she describes as uniquely his and one that moved her to tears.
“I feel so lucky to have been able to work with John on this song,” she said, noting her excitement to finally share the work with listeners. The single was released to the public on November 10, 2025.
Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation is scheduled to open in theaters on February 13. The film stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. Charli XCX is also slated to appear in A24’s The Moment in early 2026, the first project produced in partnership with her Studio365 venture.
The Essex-born artist has several additional acting credits forthcoming, including roles in Daniel Goldhaber’s remake of Faces of Death and appearances in I Want Your Sex, The Gallerist, 100 Nights of Hero and Sacrifice.
