Cast Member Calls Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist Martyrs Scariest Project Yet

Comment Views: 3

Mike Flanagan is releasing Carrie, which is a modern adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel. However, the writer and director has already finished filming his next movie. The Exorcist: Martyrs releases in theaters in March 2027, and audiences still know practically nothing about his take on the franchise.

Polygon interviewed Samantha Sloyan, an actor whose credits include Hush, Midnight Mass, Carrie, and The Exorcist: Martyrs. She shared details about the upcoming movie.

I can’t really say anything because the truth is I’m such a small component. I am really in and out. So I am going to leave that for people who truly own that movie.

I think it’s going to be probably the scariest thing that I’ve seen him do thus far.

Sloyan added that she was excited to be part of the project. Based on what she saw on the monitors, she described the production as stunning. For a filmmaker who builds careers on adapting classic horror for modern audiences, this claim matters. It offers reassurance for The Exorcist: Martyrs, which needs to live up to the scariest movie ever made while following 2023’s critically panned The Exorcist: Believer.

Polygon will share more from Sloyan about Carrie and her experience working with Flanagan soon. Meanwhile, details about The Exorcist: Martyrs remain limited.

What’s the plot of The Exorcist: Martyrs?

No official plot has been announced. However, one report states the story follows a single mother working as a police officer who helped arrest a satanic serial killer 13 years earlier. Her 12-year-old son becomes possessed by a demon, and a new string of murders connects back to her past.

Who’s in the cast of The Exorcist: Martyrs?

Scarlett Johansson, seen with long red hair standing on a ferryboat in Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson stars in the movie, presumably as the police officer, though that role is unconfirmed. The cast also includes child actor Jacobi Jupe likely as the son, Diane Lane from Man of Steel, Chiwetel Ejiofor from Backrooms, Laurence Fishburne from The Matrix, Sasha Calle from The Flash, Carl Lumbly from Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and John Leguizamo from The Odyssey, who reportedly plays the earlier serial killer named Father Sunday. Flanagan’s frequent collaborators Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Carla Gugino, Samantha Sloyan, and Kate Siegel also appear.

When is The Exorcist: Martyrs’ release date?

The Exorcist: Martyrs hits theaters on March 12, 2027.
