Hideo Kojima Explains Why He Is Not Revealing Details About OD
Three years have passed since the game was announced.
Hideo Kojima has explained why his horror game OD still remains almost entirely without details nearly three years after its official announcement. According to the developer, this secrecy is a deliberate decision because he wants to preserve maximum mystery right up until the game’s release.
Kojima shared this information on October 5 during the premiere of the third season of the KOJI10 radio show on TBS Radio. Since OD was presented at The Game Awards 2023, very little has become known about the project: the developers have revealed the cast and writer, shown a few screenshots, and released two teaser trailers.
Kojima noted that in past projects he usually released several teasers and gradually revealed details. However, for OD he decided to abandon that kind of approach.
He also described OD as a game meant to “drive players to the edge of fear.”
Kojima also discussed the current state of development. Filming for the game was suspended due to the strike by the American actor’s union SAG-AFTRA, but resumed in July of this year.
Work on the project continues, including ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), which is the re-recording of lines needed to replace or correct sound recorded on set. According to Kojima, the entire process will continue into next year.
