California Proclaims “Bad Bunny Day” Ahead of Super Bowl LX

In a historic tribute to global music icon Bad Bunny, California Governor Gavin Newsom has officially designated February 8 as “Bad Bunny Day” across the state. The proclamation serves as a high-profile prelude to the artist’s landmark halftime performance at Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara.

Taking to social media to share the news, Governor Newsom praised the Puerto Rican superstar’s artistry and charisma. “I am declaring tomorrow in California as ‘Bad Bunny Day’ as he takes the stage at the big game in the Golden State,” Newsom posted via X. He specifically highlighted the singer’s “soothing, beautiful voice” and undeniable presence.

Newsom later followed up with a lighthearted endorsement of the singer’s cultural impact, jokingly remarking on the artist’s “hot” status and expressing his deep appreciation for Puerto Rican culture and the Spanish language. “We love Bad Bunny! Happy Bad Bunny Day, America,” the Governor added.

The celebration isn’t limited to the political sphere; tech industry leaders are also joining in. Apple CEO Tim Cook shared his support for the artist by posting a selfie with Bad Bunny ahead of the festivities at Levi’s Stadium.

A Cultural Milestone for the Halftime Stage

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is poised to make history with an all-Spanish halftime set. This performance follows a career-defining year for the artist, who recently secured the Album of the Year trophy at the 2026 Grammy Awards—becoming the first performer to win the category with a Spanish-language project.

Reflecting on the gravity of the moment, Bad Bunny told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans that his primary goal is connection. “I just want to be there. I’m just ready to do it. I want to feel it. I want people to watch it and enjoy it,” he shared during a pre-game interview.

The “Bad Bunny Day” designation also highlights the singer’s growing role as a cultural advocate. During his recent Grammy acceptance speech in Los Angeles, he spoke passionately about identity and human rights, emphasizing, “We are humans, and we are Americans.”

The Super Bowl halftime show remains a cornerstone of the Apple Music, NFL, and Roc Nation partnership, which continues to prioritize multicultural representation and global appeal. Under the direction of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, the selection of Bad Bunny underscores the NFL’s commitment to its rapidly growing Spanish-speaking fanbase.
