BTS’s RM to Limit Participation in Comeback Concert Following Ankle Injury

BTS Leader RM to Limit Movement at Gwanghwamun Comeback After Sustaining Ankle Injury

RM, the leader of global superstars BTS, has suffered an ankle injury just days before the group’s highly anticipated comeback performance in Seoul. As a result, the rapper and songwriter will have limited mobility during the upcoming showcase.

The group’s label, BigHit Music, released a statement via Weverse explaining that the injury occurred during a rehearsal on March 19. Following the incident, RM was immediately taken to a medical facility for an in-depth examination. Doctors diagnosed him with a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion, which involves significant inflammation and ligament damage.

To facilitate a proper recovery, RM has been advised to wear a cast for at least two weeks. Consequently, his participation in on-stage choreography will be restricted to prevent further aggravation of the injury.

“While RM was deeply committed to delivering a full performance for this symbolic stage at Gwanghwamun, the company has decided to follow medical advice and prioritize the artist’s long-term health,” BigHit Music stated. “We sincerely apologize to fans who have been eagerly waiting for this performance and ask for your understanding.”

The news arrives just as BTS prepares for their first major live event in years. Scheduled for Saturday, March 21, the concert at Gwanghwamun Square will be livestreamed globally on Netflix. The event celebrates the release of their latest full-length album, ARIRANG, which dropped Friday and serves as their first studio effort since the 2020 chart-topper Be. Following the Seoul showcase, the group is expected to travel to New York for a Spotify fan event and an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

With more than 250,000 fans expected to gather at the Seoul landmark, city officials have increased security measures, deploying thousands of police officers and specialized safety units. Both RM and his bandmate Jin have reached out to the ARMY (the group’s fanbase), urging them to remain orderly and follow the guidance of safety personnel.

“Please follow the instructions of the staff on-site to ensure everyone stays safe,” RM posted on Weverse. “I want to extend my gratitude to the police, fire departments, and local government officials working hard to coordinate this event.”

Official Statement from BigHit Music

Hello. This is BIGHIT MUSIC.

We are providing an update regarding RM’s participation in the ‘BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG’ event on March 21.

During rehearsals on March 19, RM sustained an ankle injury. A hospital examination confirmed a sprain, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion. Medical professionals have mandated that he wear a cast and limit his movements for at least two weeks to focus on recovery.

Although RM strongly desired to perform as planned, we have decided to limit his physical choreography to avoid further strain. He will still be present on stage to engage with the audience and the fans as much as possible.

We prioritize the health of our artists above all else and will provide RM with the necessary support for a full recovery. Thank you for your continued support of BTS.
