Justin Timberlake’s DWI Arrest Video Disclosed After Legal Dispute
Law enforcement officials in Sag Harbor, New York, have officially released body camera footage documenting the 2024 arrest of pop icon Justin Timberlake. The disclosure occurred on Friday, March 20, following a series of public records requests from various media organizations.
The 44-year-old entertainer had originally initiated legal action to suppress the footage, arguing that its publication would be prejudicial. However, he eventually reached a settlement with authorities that allowed for the release of a redacted version of the recording.
Timberlake’s legal troubles began in June 2024 when he was apprehended on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The case concluded with the singer pleading guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired. As part of his sentencing, he was ordered to complete 25 hours of community service and participate in a public service announcement highlighting the hazards of impaired driving, in which he cautioned the public, “Even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car.”
The newly available footage, which surfaced across major news outlets, depicts the musician performing several roadside sobriety tests after being pulled over in a BMW SUV. Throughout the encounter, Timberlake’s speech appears labored as he tells the arresting officers, “Guys, I’m just following my friends back to my house. I’m not doing anything.”
During the field evaluation, Timberlake struggled to follow specific instructions, such as walking a straight line with precise heel-to-toe steps. “Sorry, I’m a little nervous,” he admitted to the officers after taking more steps than requested. In a subsequent balance test, he remarked, “Sorry, my heart is racing,” adding that the physical requirements were “really hard tests” before being placed in handcuffs.
In documentation filed earlier this month, Timberlake’s defense team maintained that the footage portrayed him in an “acutely vulnerable state” and insisted that its release served no legitimate public interest. Despite these claims, a Long Island judge permitted the release following a thorough judicial review.
The Village of Sag Harbor issued a formal statement on Friday, expressing satisfaction that the legal hurdle had been cleared. “We are pleased that this matter has now been resolved and the village will be able to comply with its statutory obligation to release the material that is subject to disclosure,” the statement read.
Officials emphasized that the process followed standard protocols under the Freedom of Information Law, noting that the footage was carefully reviewed and edited to respect personal privacy and ensure the safety of both the public and law enforcement personnel.
