Black Myth: Wukong Developers Abandon AI for Quality in New Game
Game Science will deliberately avoid generative AI during the conceptual and production stages of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, according to the studio’s art director.
Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, Chinese developer Game Science is actively working on the next game in the series, Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
Fans have inquired about the development pace and the use of generative AI. Studio co-founder and project art director Yang Qi stated that the team does not plan to use AI during the conceptual and production stages. He explained that this decision stems from a desire to preserve a traditional artistic approach to creation rather than a rejection of new technologies.
As an example, the developer cited director Christopher Nolan, who continues to use traditional filmmaking methods despite the proliferation of digital effects. Game Science does not see any need to follow technological trends merely to save time, choosing instead to focus on “authenticity, precision, and an organic creative process.”

Black Myth: Zhong Kui is currently in the early stages of development. Players have only been shown a conceptual CGI trailer and a special video for the Chinese New Year. The release will likely take place around 2028.
