Barry Keoghan Sets the Record Straight on Breakup Rumors with Sabrina Carpenter

Barry Keoghan is finally addressing the speculation surrounding his past relationship with Sabrina Carpenter, moving to dispel long-standing infidelity rumors.
During a candid conversation on Tuesday, April 28, for Benny Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the Irish actor spoke openly about the toll of public scrutiny. The discussion initially touched on the cyberbullying Keoghan has endured regarding his appearance—an experience that prompted him to withdraw from social media platforms entirely.
While Keoghan previously hinted at the pressures of online vitriol during a SiriusXM interview in March, his latest appearance marks the first time he has directly challenged the invasive narratives regarding his split from Carpenter.
“There was a narrative circulating that was never truly addressed,” Keoghan explained. “It was a false narrative, and because I chose not to confirm or comment on it, I simply stepped away from the spotlight.”
Reflecting on the mechanics of fame, Keoghan noted how easily unfounded stories can spiral out of control. He specifically pointed to a viral video that ignited the rumors, noting the irony that the original creator eventually issued a retraction. “A girl made a video, and later, she posted another admitting she had fabricated the claim,” he remarked. “Yet, it seems that correction didn’t gain the same traction as the initial accusation.”
The actor emphasized that his silence was a protective measure, as he had no desire to escalate the situation or put the individual who started the rumor in a vulnerable position. “I am fully aware of everything that was said. My goal isn’t to drag anyone else into this,” he stated. “I’m not looking for validation or sympathy, but I am asking for the public to stop relying on assumptions and to move past this narrative.”
Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter remains focused on her career, recently finishing a headline-making run at Coachella 2026. Her momentum continues with the release of her new duet, “Bring Your Love,” arriving this Thursday, April 30.
