Per Deadline, Avengers: Endgame Encore led the box office this past weekend with an estimated three-day gross of $26 million. While that total trails the opening weekend of a brand-new superhero film, the figure remains impressive for a re-release containing only a small amount of new footage. Audiences clearly want an Avengers refresher before Doomsday arrives.

The strong opening weekend stands out because Avengers: Endgame Encore faced stiff competition. The successful Resident Evil adaptation entered its second weekend alongside new releases like Paramount’s The Heart of the Beast, A24’s Primetime, and DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island. Deadline listed the top ten highest-grossing movies from this past weekend:

3. Heart of the Beast – $20 million

The Encore re-release also pushed the all-time domestic cume for Avengers: Endgame to $884.3 million. That milestone affirms its status as one of the highest-grossing domestic films ever alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The commercial success of both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame Encore paints a promising picture for Avengers: Doomsday, which Encore directly sets up through its new post-credit scenes. Avengers: Doomsday releases on Dec. 18.
