Ariana Grande has spent over a decade in a state of constant evolution. From her prolific discography and global tours to her intensive commitment to the Wicked film adaptations since 2021, her career has moved at a relentless pace. Naturally, the prospect of a hiatus is finally on the horizon.
In a candid cover story for Vogue Japan released on Monday, January 26, the pop powerhouse reflected on her future. When asked if she intended to step back, she admitted, “I think that it would probably be healthy to [take a break].”
Grande confessed that slowing down is unfamiliar territory for her. “I’m not used to taking breaks,” she explained. “But yeah, these past few years have been pretty nonstop. And by few, I mean 15.”
Looking ahead, the “Eternal Sunshine” singer is prioritizing personal equilibrium. Grande noted that she wants her next 15 years to look drastically different from the high-velocity grind of her past. “Balance is the goal… I don’t think they will look like the previous 15 years,” she remarked.
A Shift in Musical Momentum
The two-time Grammy winner has previously hinted that she is moving away from the rapid-fire release cycle that defined her early career. Between 2013 and 2024, she delivered seven studio albums, six of which secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. Her relationship with live performance is also shifting; once the Eternal Sunshine Tour wraps up this September, it may be a long time before she returns to the stage.
Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast last November, Grande expressed her excitement for the upcoming shows while acknowledging their significance. “I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time,” she said. “I’m going to give it my all. It’s like, ‘One last hurrah. For now.’”
As for the possibility of a new album anytime soon? Grande joked with Vogue Japan, saying, “You’ll have to clone me!”
New Horizons in Acting
While her music career may be entering a quiet period, Grande’s passion for acting has been completely revitalized. Her time on the set of Wicked served as a catalyst for new projects. She recently finished filming for a new Meet the Parents installment, and next year, she is set to debut on the West End in a revival of Sunday in the Park With George, starring alongside her Wicked colleague Jonathan Bailey.
