While the title of Ariana Grande’s upcoming album, Petal, suggests something soft and delicate, the artist warns that the content is anything but.
In an Instagram video shared this Thursday (May 7), the pop icon gave her team a candid update on the project, admitting that she’s stepping away from her usual restraint. “It’s a little feral,” she remarked, explaining that the music emerges from a mindset she has previously been too hesitant or polished to embrace.
“This feels like a total ‘f–k it’ moment,” Grande candidly noted in the clip.
Since announcing Petal in late April, Grande has positioned it as a successor to her 2024 chart-topping hit, Eternal Sunshine. She has described the new work as a vibrant exploration of resilience, focusing on the metaphorical process of blooming through the harshest of circumstances.
“It is essentially about shedding negative attachments—whether that means conquering inner demons or silencing external noise that no longer serves my growth,” Grande added in the video. “I’m sharing my perspective, but I hope listeners can take these stories and relate them to their own journeys.”
Fans won’t have to wait long to see this evolution live. Before Petal debuts on July 31, Grande will launch the Eternal Sunshine Tour on June 6. This marks her first major headlining tour in seven years, featuring an extensive North American leg before she concludes with a prestigious 10-night residency at London’s O2 Arena.
