Both Arc Raiders and The Finals are heading to film and television. Backrooms co-producer Chernin Entertainment announced that it secured adaptation rights from Nexon-owned Embark Studios to develop movies and TV series based on the games.

Embark Studios founder and CEO Patrick Söderlund stated that the team will work closely with Chernin on the projects. “Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing Arc Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” Söderlund said in a press release. “Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”

In a September interview with Polygon, Embark Studios Executive Producer Aleksander Grondal mentioned that the team was in talks to “take Arc Raiders to other types of mediums.” He added that they were still in the “early phase” at the time, meaning these newly announced projects are likely still far off.

“Arc Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” said David Ready, president of film at the company. Chernin was founded in 2009 and co-produced blockbusters such as the Planet of the Apes series, Fear Street, and Backrooms. The company is currently co-producing a Mega Man adaptation with Capcom for Netflix.

What are Arc Raiders and The Finals about?

Arc Raiders ranks as one of the most popular extraction shooters ever, selling over 16 million copies following its Oct. 30, 2025, release. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where machines called Arcs have claimed the surface and driven humanity underground. The major Frozen Trail update arrives on Oct. 8, 2026, bringing a new map, additional enemies, amplified weapons, and other additions. The full game will also be free-to-play for four days alongside the expansion.

The Finals is set in the year 2100 within a virtual reality game show featuring extensive firearms and explosives. The game has logged around 30 million players since its Dec. 7, 2023, launch. It continues to receive major updates, including upcoming changes that will make its destruction system much more dynamic. Both games have faced criticism for using distractingly bad AI-generated voice acting, and viewers will hope the screen adaptations leave this AI slop behind.
