Arc Games, the publisher behind Remnant 2, bought itself out from Embracer Group

The holding, which once experienced rapid growth, is now going through a difficult period.

Embracer Group has now permanently divested two more companies acquired during its aggressive expansion — a stretch that collapsed after a failed $2 billion deal. Leaving the Swedish group’s umbrella are Arc Games, the publisher behind Remnant II, and Cryptic Studios, known for Star Trek Online and Neverwinter.

The buyout was made possible with financial backing from China’s XD Inc. Employees at both companies will keep their jobs and their current organizational structures will remain unchanged — a rare example of a “soft” separation from Embracer, unlike the earlier closures of Volition Games and Free Radical Design.

We are grateful for the years we spent within Embracer Group and for everything we achieved over more than 15 years. Now, as an independent publisher, we can fully pursue our vision — partnering with the best developers around the world and bringing outstanding games to market. The year 2026 already looks set to be one of the most ambitious and inventive chapters in our history.
Yun Im, Chief Executive Officer, Arc Games.
