A Cosmic Duo: Orbitals Set to Launch Exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2
Shapefarm and Kepler Interactive have unveiled a mesmerizing new trailer for Orbitals, their upcoming cooperative puzzle-adventure that wears its 90s-era aesthetic on its sleeve. In a major announcement, the developers confirmed that the title will debut as an exclusive for the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 during the summer window. While a specific launch date remains under wraps, the latest footage offers a compelling look at the journey ahead.
Debuting during the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, the trailer highlights the game’s striking hand-drawn art style, heavily influenced by legendary anime classics such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. Beyond the visuals, the update showcased new interactive elements, including rhythm-based segments where players can perform on drums and piano together, as well as nostalgic arcade-style minigames tucked within the world.
The narrative follows the dual protagonists, Maki and Omura. Together, they must navigate the labyrinthine corridors of a deteriorating space station while fending off the effects of a supernatural cosmic storm that threatens to tear their sanctuary apart.
Leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5, Orbitals is optimized specifically for the Switch 2 hardware. This partnership allows for seamless local split-screen gameplay using two pairs of Joy-Con 2 controllers on a single device. Furthermore, the game will utilize Nintendo’s GameShare functionality, enabling players to invite friends for local wireless sessions or connect via online matchmaking for remote cooperative play.
Prepare to salvage the stars when Orbitals arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 this summer.
