Actors From Split and True Detective Join Resident Evil Adaptation

Filming is about to commence on Zack Kregger’s new Resident Evil adaptation, and three more actors have just been confirmed for the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast now includes Zach Cherry (Split), Kali Reis (True Detective) and Johnno Wilson (Screech of Metal).

Zach Cherry will portray a scientist employed at the hospital. Kali Reis has been cast as a former soldier — the outlet reports the part was originally written for a male performer. Wilson’s character is being kept secret for now.

The new film won’t be a straight retelling of the original games; instead it will present a standalone narrative set alongside the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but tonally closer to Resident Evil 4.

The plot follows a courier who, in the dead of night, must deliver a mysterious package to Raccoon City Hospital and becomes pulled into a sequence of events that throws him into the center of a zombie outbreak. Earlier reports indicated Austin Abrams will play the lead (credited for Weapons).

Zack Kregger — who released the horror film Weapons earlier this year — directs and co-wrote the screenplay. He penned the script with Shay Hatten, known for his work on John Wick: Chapter 3 and 4. Production is supported by Constantin Film, PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.

Principal photography is set to begin in October in Prague, and the theatrical release is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
