Anticipation is mounting for A24’s The Backrooms, and a freshly released trailer has finally offered horror enthusiasts a substantial glimpse into this chilling cinematic adaptation. While the initial teaser relied on a sequence of unsettling, desolate environments to build tension, the latest footage unveils the principal cast and delves deeper into the sprawling, surreal architecture of the film’s namesake.

The narrative centers on a group of explorers who find themselves ensnared within the Backrooms—a haunting dimension composed of endless, monochromatic hallways. Characterized by jaundice-yellow wallpaper, the faint hum of fluorescent lights, and the smell of damp carpet, this liminal expanse is far from uninhabited. As the legendary 4chan post that birthed the phenomenon originally warned: “God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you.”

The production boasts an impressive ensemble, featuring Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), and Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking). Perhaps most notably, the film is helmed by 20-year-old visionary Kane Parsons. Parsons, who sparked a global obsession at just 17 with his viral YouTube shorts—the first of which has amassed over 73 million views—has been hailed as the natural choice to translate this digital folklore into a feature-length nightmare.

The Backrooms is scheduled to haunt theaters starting May 29, 2026. In a poetic twist of timing, Parsons will reach the legal drinking age just a month after his directorial debut hits the big screen. To tide fans over until the premiere, A24 has released a series of atmospheric posters that capture the film’s claustrophobic dread.
