Yusef Fares on meeting Kojima: “He’s really cool… just as humble as in the interview”

Yousef Fares, founder and creative director of Hazelight, recently traveled to Tokyo to visit Kojima Productions and spoke warmly about his impressions of Hideo Kojima. In an interview, Fares praised the meeting and complimented both Kojima and the studio’s atmosphere.

“We had a fantastic chat. He’s genuinely impressive — I really like him. There’s something special about him in the best way, and his office is awesome. It’s a pity people don’t get to see it.”

Fares pointed out that, despite Kojima’s legendary standing in the games industry, he comes across as down-to-earth and authentic.

“Kojima is such a modest guy, truly cool… He’s the same humble person you see in interviews. He’s remarkable, and I really like him.”

Both creative directors are known for their unconventional approaches to game design, and fans have long speculated about what creative energy might spark if they ever collaborated. Fares stopped short of hinting at a partnership, but his admiration for Kojima was unmistakable and the visit clearly made an impression.

“He’s a one-of-a-kind personality, and I love that. There’s a bit of madness in him that I find delightful.”

Whether the meeting will lead to anything further remains to be seen.
