It is only recently that Christopher Bellard—widely recognized as Young MayLay, the voice behind Carl “CJ” Johnson in GTA: San Andreas—has started receiving the widespread acclaim he has long earned, including high-profile appearances alongside the lead cast of Grand Theft Auto V. Historically, however, the multifaceted actor and musician has remained notoriously private, shying away from formal interviews.

- Before joining the Rockstar family, Bellard’s personal introduction to the series was through GTA: Vice City.
- His casting came about through a serendipitous connection with DJ Pooh, who was already collaborating with Rockstar Games. During an initial 15-minute phone call regarding musical beats, Bellard was unaware that he was actually auditioning. DJ Pooh later revealed that the call had been placed on speakerphone with Rockstar representatives present; they had requested this setup to hear Bellard’s authentic, unscripted persona. By avoiding the typical pitfalls of overacting, Bellard inadvertently secured the iconic lead role of Carl Johnson.
