Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot will feature wrestlers beyond just Dave Bautista.
Amazon MGM is continuing to round out the cast for the remake of the 1986 film Highlander. According to Deadline, WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre has joined the project. He is set to play Angus MacLeod — the brother of Connor MacLeod, who will be portrayed by Henry Cavill.
McIntyre began his wrestling career in 2001 and is a two-time WWE Champion, but he only recently stepped into film. His screen debut came in the 2024 action-comedy Killer’s Game, in which he co-starred with Dave Bautista. Bautista himself will play the film’s principal antagonist, the Kurgan, so the two performers will reunite on the same production.
Production is currently paused. Filming, which was due to start this autumn, was delayed after Henry Cavill sustained a leg injury; the actor is expected to need around six months to recover.
The movie still lacks an official release date. Stahelski had previously mentioned 2027 or 2028, but a 2027 premiere now appears unlikely.
