Witchbrook, the spellcraft-driven life-sim from Chucklefish, has been delayed until 2026. First hinted at in 2017, the project was expected to arrive this winter but will now take additional time to reach the polish the team envisions.
Described by many as a blend of Stardew Valley’s cozy routine and the whimsical atmosphere of a magical boarding school, Witchbrook places you in the role of a newcomer to the seaside city of Mossport. As a student at Witchbrook College you attend lessons, complete assignments, and refine your spellcasting and potion-making—all while forging friendships, pursuing romance, and interacting with townsfolk who follow their own daily routines.
Beyond academics, the game opens up a variety of leisurely pursuits: build and run a small business, renovate your home, explore seasonal changes around Mossport, and uncover the city’s secrets. The world reacts to the passing months, and the game also supports four-player online co-op for shared play.
In a developer update, Chucklefish explained that while substantial progress had been made, the team needs extra time to ensure the world feels as rich and immersive as promised. The studio emphasized that Witchbrook is an expansive undertaking and that the additional runway will help deliver the depth, detail, and charm players expect.
The update also revealed the game’s world map and noted one silver lining of the postponement: the extra development window makes it more feasible to bring Witchbrook to additional platforms. The title is currently planned for Xbox and PC, and was recently confirmed for Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Switch 2, with the team also exploring broader language support. Chucklefish pledged further developer updates, including a forthcoming deep dive on character customization.
