Will Red Dead Redemption 2 Come to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2? Digital Foundry Comments on Rumors
RDR2 has once again become the focus of speculation. A growing number of sources claim Rockstar Games is preparing a refreshed edition of the title for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Switch 2. Digital Foundry’s specialists have examined the likely changes in detail.
According to John Linneman, the Switch 2 release could be surprisingly strong — visually superior to the PS4 and Xbox One versions, even if it won’t reach the 4K resolution available on the Xbox One X. Delivering visuals comparable to the PS4 Pro on a handheld would still represent a major advancement.
The biggest challenge is the game’s size — the original requires more than 100 GB, whereas the largest Switch 2 titles occupy roughly 70 GB. Oliver Mackenzie believes Rockstar would need to adopt advanced compression or streaming solutions. If they succeed, RDR2 could become one of the most impressive games on Nintendo’s new console.
As for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions, experts expect a 60 fps mode, enhanced rendering with upscaling to around 1800p, and possibly ray tracing — particularly for global illumination. Richard Ledbetter noted that such upgrades could dramatically transform the game’s visuals.
For now, these reports remain unconfirmed — Rockstar has not announced anything officially. Players will have to wait for verification.
