Will Players Be Able to Pick Up Prostitutes in GTA 6?

On June 2, 1975, a pivotal demonstration in Lyon, France, sparked the creation of International Whores’ Day. As we mark half a century since that event, the unofficial holiday invites a moment of reflection—not just on labor rights, but on the evolving narrative landscape of GTA 6.

The trailers have introduced us to more than just a duo of delinquents; we are witnessing a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde bound by an intense, undeniable romance. While the conclusion of their chaotic journey remains a mystery—one we hope ends more favorably than their historical counterparts—the depth of their connection is captivating. It is the kind of devoted partnership that gives the game a distinct emotional gravity.

This raises a compelling question: how does the long-standing mechanic of soliciting sex workers—a staple of the franchise since GTA 3—fit into this new dynamic? It is difficult to reconcile the image of Jason and Lucia sharing a tender, devoted moment with the player abruptly steering them toward a brothel.

While the GTA fanbase is known for its dark humor, such a disconnect would inevitably dilute the narrative’s tension. Rockstar has navigated this before: just as the devoted family man John Marston was restricted from such encounters in RDR 1, the infidelity of Michael De Santa made similar interactions feel narratively consistent in GTA 5. By contrast, a visit to a strip club feels like a natural fit for the setting, and there is even potential for more inclusive entertainment options, such as male performers, to diversify the game’s nightlife.

Soliciting services will likely be sidelined in the single-player campaign to preserve the integrity of the protagonists’ relationship. However, this does not mean the profession will disappear from the world. It has long been a staple of the franchise’s grimy, lived-in atmosphere, frequently serving as a utilitarian mechanic to replenish health. We anticipate sex workers will remain a vibrant part of the world’s population, even if player interaction is significantly curtailed.

The situation likely shifts within the multiplayer component. Free from the constraints of a predefined relationship, players can carve out their own paths. It remains crucial, however, that the developers address past oversights; the immersion-breaking reuse of male-coded animations for female avatars in GTA Online was a glaring flaw that should be left in the past.
