Why Sung Jin-woo Looks Different in the Fortnite x Solo Leveling Collaboration

Following a series of tantalizing hints regarding a collaboration between Fortnite and the global phenomenon Solo Leveling, Epic Games has finally pulled back the curtain on the partnership. The first wave of cosmetics has been unveiled, featuring the iconic protagonist Sung Jin-woo alongside the imposing Blood-Red Commander Igris. However, fans might notice a few stylistic departures from the traditional anime aesthetic.

Originally penned by Chugong as a South Korean web novel, Solo Leveling follows Jin-woo in a world besieged by “Gates”—mysterious portals linking our reality to monster-infested dungeons. These threats are managed by “Hunters,” individuals gifted with varying degrees of supernatural power. Once dismissed as the “World’s Weakest Hunter,” Jin-woo discovers a unique interface known as the “System” after surviving a catastrophic trial. This allows him to transcend standard power limits, eventually gaining the ability to resurrect defeated foes as his personal Shadow Army, with the formidable Igris serving as one of his most loyal lieutenants.

The reveal teaser, shared via Fortnite’s official Instagram, echoes the series’ most famous command: “Knight Commander Igris the Bloodred. Will you submit to my control? Arise. Arise… ARISE!” The specific visual style seen here is intentional; as noted by industry analysts, this crossover specifically draws inspiration from the 2024 mobile title Solo Leveling: Arise rather than the anime or manhwa. This explains the modernized character models, which were optimized for Netmarble’s gaming engine. Regardless of the source material’s variation, the presence of these characters in the Battle Royale is a major win for the community.

In the promotional footage, Jin-woo is seen manifesting Igris before diving into the chaos of Fortnite. Beyond the character skins, players have also glimpsed the “Statue of God” back bling, a hauntingly accurate tribute to the series’ terrifying early chapters.

Speculation within the leak community suggests a comprehensive bundle is on the horizon. Rumored inclusions include Sung Jin-woo and Cha Hae-In, with some debate over whether Igris or Beru will round out the set. Given Epic’s history of releasing multi-character bundles—such as the recent five-skin South Park collection—it remains possible that both shadow soldiers will make an appearance.

While an official launch time has yet to be finalized, the Solo Leveling collection is slated to arrive during the Item Shop refresh this Friday (Thursday at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT).
