What’s Behind the Success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Not Just the Creators
The team behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 explained what drove the game’s strong sales and positive reviews. They say one of the central reasons was the performers’ work.
Jennifer Inglish, known for her roles in Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3, embodied two heroines — Mael and Alicia — who are narratively linked and function as “reflections” within the game’s painted world.
Inglish stressed that the toughest part was carving out subtle distinctions between the characters while preserving the shared essence of their personalities. She noted that the studio applied an effect to her voice, but she still needed to find a different intonation and a distinct persona, all while remaining faithful to their common emotional core.
She added that the finished result was the product of the entire team’s efforts. Inglish particularly praised the scenes with her co-actors, calling them “icons” who helped her fully realize both parts.
The developers believe that this deep involvement from the cast became one of the cornerstones of Expedition 33’s success.
