The legendary sketch comedy institution has officially crossed the Atlantic. On March 21, the British airwaves saw the historic debut of Saturday Night Live UK, featuring SNL icon Tina Fey as the host and the critically acclaimed indie-rock outfit Wet Leg as the night’s musical guest.
The international expansion of Lorne Michaels’ long-running NBC powerhouse kicked off with a monologue from Fey that leaned into the cultural exchange. The opening segment was bolstered by unexpected appearances from actor Michael Cera and legendary British broadcaster Graham Norton. Fey playfully told the London audience, “It’s a genuine privilege and quite a milestone. I am officially the youngest person to ever host SNL UK!”
Midway through the broadcast, Wet Leg performed two standout selections from their sophomore studio effort, Moisturizer. The album has proven to be a commercial juggernaut, debuting at No. 1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart and securing the No. 6 spot on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart.
The band first delivered a rendition of “Mangetout,” a Grammy-nominated track that was previously highlighted as one of the premier songs from the U.K. and Ireland in 2025. Later in the program, they returned to the spotlight to perform the album’s punchy lead single, “Catch These Fists.”
Following their televised appearance in London, Wet Leg will head back to the United States to navigate a packed summer festival circuit. The duo is slated for major sets at Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands. Their North American headlining dates are scheduled to begin on April 15 at the Fox Theater in Pomona, California.
The momentum for SNL UK continues with a confirmed lineup for the coming weeks. Jamie Dornan is set to host the March 28 episode alongside musical guest Wolf Alice, while Riz Ahmed will take the reins on April 2 with Kasabian providing the music.
The series is broadcast on Sky in the United Kingdom and is available for American audiences via Peacock. According to industry reports, the premiere drew an impressive audience of over 220,000 viewers on Sky during its initial airing.
