Watch Sean Paul and ‘Love Island’ star Chelley rate L.A.’s Jamaican food on ‘Take Us Out’

In the newest installment of Billboard’s Take Us Out series, dancehall icon Sean Paul sits down with Love Island star Chelley for an honest, easygoing conversation over a Jamaican-inspired tasting menu.

The pair visited Status Hollywood in Los Angeles and sampled a sequence of island-inflected dishes, trading bites and memories as they munched on standout items like jerk mac-and-cheese spring rolls. Between courses they reflected on Sean Paul’s enduring influence and his string of Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers, including “Get Busy,” “Temperature,” “Cheap Thrills” (with Sia) and the Beyoncé collaboration “Baby Boy.”

He even recalled a small, memorable moment that convinced him the Beyoncé duet had something special: while parked beneath a mango tree, a fallen fruit landed in his lap—an odd, joyful sign, he says, that the song had hit potential.

The interview comes on the heels of a busy season for Sean Paul. He spent the summer touring U.S. amphitheaters with DaBaby and Wiz Khalifa on the Good Vibes Only Tour — a 15-date run that opened July 6 in Darien Center, N.Y., and concluded July 27 in Atlanta. Musically he’s stayed active as well, releasing the single “Ginger” in July and collaborating with artists such as Moliy, Luude and Collie Buddz throughout the summer.

Chelley likewise had a full summer: she celebrated her 28th birthday with a stylish dinner at Barlume in Manhattan and returned to New York with the Love Island cast to film the season-seven reunion, which aired on Peacock on Aug. 25.
