Variety magazine has released a list of the 100 greatest comedies ever made. Topping the ranking is the 1988 film The Naked Gun, starring Leslie Nielsen.
“The charm of The Naked Gun lies in its shameless abandon and anarchic eye — a comedy able to lampoon anything: world autocrats, dull film-noir dialogue, safe sex, a baseball game, or food that’s been sitting in the fridge for too long,” the editors note.
The top ten also features Some Like It Hot, Annie Hall, The Great Dictator, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Fargo, and Groundhog Day.
